Activities / Trips

UREC's Outdoor Programs offers a wide range of interesting, low-cost outdoor trips, and outings. Located at an elevation of 3,333 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Appalachian is a 45-minute drive from some of the East Coast's highest peaks. Some of the trips offered include: rafting and funyaking, kayaking, rock climbing, day hikes, backpacking, caving, Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition, International Expeditions Program, and First Ascent.

International Expeditions

Student Outdoor Learning Expeditions (SOLE) immerse students in active educational adventures of discovery. SOLE trips take you far from the Southern Appalachians to explore new landscapes, cultures, and opportunities. Learn valuable skills and gain academic credit while traveling in seldom visited, remote and beautiful regions. Outdoor Programs provides all technical equipment, instruction, permits, food, transportation, course materials, and training. Tuition is a separate fee and financial aid is available.

Come by the Outing Center located in the Student Recreation Center to check out rental equipment or to learn out more about the various activities offered.
