Most of the oceanic crust (by some estimates 99.999%) is returned to the mantle by the process of subduction.  A small portion, however, can be added (accreted) to the margin of a continent or island arc at a convergent plate boundary.  What process(es) is responsible for the incorporation oceanic crust into continental crust or into an island arc?
