Quartz, from Granite to Sandstone
Granite is a plutonic igneous rock that contains considerable
amounts of the mineral quartz. Most sandstone (a sedimentary rock)
contains quartz too. Explain how the quartz in granite might eventually
end up as quartz in sandstone, exposed at the surface of the earth.
Starting with plutonic igneous rock, list the correct
sequence of processes and materials that leads to quartz in a sedimentary
rock exposed at the surface. You may also mark (highlight) the sequence
of materials and processes on the copy of the rock cyle that has been distributed
to you.
