Turner Prize winner, Anish Kapoor, is a British-Indian sculptor. He currently lives and works in London, where he has resided since the early 1970’s. Notable public sculptures include Cloud Gate in Chicago’s Millennium Park; Sky Mirror, exhibited at the Rockefeller Center in New York City and in London.
He explores simple materials, geometric shape, and organic form. These sculptures are frequently simple, curved forms, usually monochromatic and brightly coloured, using powder pigment to define and permeate the form. Most of Kapoor’s work explores the the theme of “the void” in large-scale stone works, some with defined insides and outsides and others that clearly delineate empty spaces.
