Science Notebooks
Science Notebooks are used extensively in North Carolina science classrooms, especially in the primary grades. The article, "Implementing Science Notebooks in the Primary Grades," Nesbit, Hargrove, Harrelson and Maxey, in Science Activities, Winter 2004 is an excellent introduction notebooking procedures.
It can be good to show student examples of working scientists' notebooks. Here's a page from the notebook kept in the lab of Edwin Howard Armstrong (1890-1954), an electrical engineer who invented many of the circuits used in radio, radar and television.
