Science Around Us Photo Essay Rubric

Please note: This rubric is set up mathematically so that if you hand in the complete assignment on time and get a 1 (Meets Standard) on all other items, you will end up with a 1.6 out of 2. This translates into a score of 160/200 or a low B. A low A or above is achieved with an average score on each item of 1.5 or above.

A. Timeliness and Completeness of Submission (60%)
The instructor reserves the right to remove points for late or incomplete work. Each .1 point deducted in this criterion is the equivalent of a 3% reduction in grade. 
 
Work is turned in complete and on time. 
 
B. Number, Variety and Real World Relevance of Images (10%) Fewer than 10 images are present. The range of images is very limited. Students would not be particularly engaged. A minimum of 10 images are present. The photo essay contains a range of types of images. The content would help students see a variety of science content around them. The photo essay contains a exceptional range of 15 or more images that would inspire students to see science everywhere.  
C. Quality and Number of Questions (10%) Fewer than 20 questions are present. At least 20 questions are present. Questions reflect the full range of questioning levels from Bloom's/ Marzano's Taxonomy. A minimum of 30 questions are present. Extra effort has gone into having many questions that require higher order thinking.  
D. Variety of Questions, Link to Essential Standards, and Exploration Ideas (10%) Question do not deal with the the range of science content areas (Life Science, Physical Science, Earth/Space Science). The Standard Course of Study Essential Standards for science are not referenced. in the notes area. Questions deal with the full range of science content areas (Life Science, Physical Science, Earth/Space Science). The Standard Course of Study Essential Standards for science are referenced in the notes area for each slide. Each of the science content areas is covered with a full complement of questions. The Standard Course of Study Essential Standards for science are referenced in the notes area. A number of questions clearly suggest possible explorations students could do.  
E. Technical Proficiency, Writing, and Creativity (10%) The photo essay has major technical and/or grammar and mechanics problems; no creative effort is evident. The photo essay is successful from a technical point of view. The writing contains few errors, and some creative effort is apparent. The photo essay is flawless. Clear creative thought has gone into the design and execution of the project.
