Building an Identity.

CEL Branding Kit, 2022.

After a few months of getting used to working as a Graphic Designer for my internship at the Office of Community-Engaged Leadership, I was assigned the task of creating a branding identity that would both capture the spirit of the organization, as well as stand for at least 10 years or more. A task that I was both excited to leap into, and one that I was terrified of: because I had little prior experience of branding design before.

After six months of brainstorming, sketching, re-working ideas, and revisions, CEL now has their own stand-out branding kit that serves as a true reflection of the organization. Friendly, neutral, and fun, CEL's branding design contains enough neutrality to be encompassing of many of it's other sub-organizations, while still having a primary identity of it's own.

When coming up with ideas for the Office of Community-Engaged Leadership's branding, there were many potential directions to go in, but the real challenge was creating an entirely new identity for an entirely new entity. To give a bit of background on CEL, they are a new edition to the Plemmons Student Union offices; one that encompasses many different leadership opportunitites and organizations with their own established brands. For example, Trailhead, Community Fellows, and Appvotes all fall under this umbrella, but the real challenge was making CEL have a voice of their own.

After several months of brainstorming, sketching, and revision, CEL now has a branding identity that is neutral enough to be the all-ecompassing and professional organization that it represents, while retaining fun, bright, and friendly with plenty of CEL's personality.
