Dear Readers,

Reader's Workshop is a time for you and me to explore books that are interesting to us. Together, you and I will choose books for you to read. You will regularly write letters to me and to your classmates about what you are reading in your literary journal notebook.

In your letters, talk with us about what you are reading. Tell us

what you notice and think about your book. Each letter should include

the author and title of the book in correct form. Be sure to underline NL the title of your book. Your letters should also include a short summary of the book that shows you have read the book thoroughly. Finally, your letter should include an answer to one of the questions on the question list. Please date each letter in the upper right corner of the page.  DO NOT TEAR THE LETTERS OUT OF THE NOTEBOOK

Reader's Workshop will proceed in two week cycles. You must read AT LEAST one book every two weeks. You should write a letter each week. One week during the cycle, you should write to me and one week to a classmate. Two letters is only the minimum requirement. Feel free to write more often about your book if you have reflections or questions. When you write a letter to me, put your-notebook_______________________.  We will answer your letters with our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In essence, we will talk like READERS!

Your two required letters will be graded for concise summaries, rich content, and appropriate letter form.

Your collections of letters will serve as a record of your growth as

a reader. Write often and thoughtfully! Happy Reading!

A fellow reader,

PS: Remember ONE BOOK EVERY TWO WEEKS IS THE MINIMUM

REQUIREMENTIII
