Comperancy Goal 2:  The learner will synthesize and use information from a variety of sources.

 

Objective: 2.01- respond to informational materials that are read, heard, and/or viewed.

 

Materials needed:  Pen and paper, and all workshop materials that are in the classroom.

 

Purpose:  This minilesson is designed to orient students to the resources that are in the classroom.

 

Total time involved: 10 minutes

 

Script:  “Hey everyone, before we begin the writing workshop I would like to do a small activity.  We are going to spend the next 10 minutes on a scavenger hunt in the classroom.  The goal is to locate the different resources in the room, so we all know where to find the things we will need for the workshop.”  The list will include:

 

Ø      Personal portfolio

Ø      Reference books

Ø      Markers

Ø      Fiction books

Ø      Non-fiction books

Ø      Writer’s Handbooks

Ø      Progress folders

Ø      Assignment lists

Ø      Other materials (The list will very from teacher to teacher)

 

 

“As you go through the rooms write down what you have found and where it is located in the room.  Make a list of all the items that you will be using throughout the term.”
