Application Assignment #2

"Addicted to Coke"

Click here to read a story about a woman who is "addicted to Coke" (the beverage).

Remember that you are to turn in a hard copy of your answers.

1. What stimulus event is functioning as the UCS? (Be careful about picking the obvious candidate.)

2. Pick 3 stimuli and rank them in order of CS effectiveness according to Pavlov/contiguity theory. Explain why Pavlov ranks them in this order. (Note they don't all need to be good CS+.)

3. Pick 3 stimuli and rank them in order of CS effectiveness according to Rescorla/contingency theory. Explain why Rescorla ranks them in this order. (Note they don't all need to be good CS+.)

4. Pick one stimulus that Pavlov would expect to be a good CS+ but Rescorla might not. Why the difference?

5. What is the UCR according to Pavlov and Siegel?
