Current Topics in Molecular Biology (BIO 6615)

This course is designed as a seminar course where each student will give two presentations during the semester:

  1. a journal club presentation on a paper relating to their project and
  2. a presentation on their masters research project.

The course is co-taught by several faculty members, and grades are based on evaluation by participating faculty and peer-evaluations from students. The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students with exposure to the current literature in molecular biology with particular emphasis on literature pertaining to their specific research projects. The course objectives are for students to develop the ability to analyze current literature and lead a reasoned discussion on that literature, and to present the rationale behind their own research projects.

Prerequisites:

As this course delves into recent literature, a good working knowledge of molecular biology will be helpful. The students do not need to have results from their thesis work yet. Research presentations can take the form of a proposal with predicted results or a progress report on an ongoing project.
