URBAN MISSIONSThroughout the year we host youth groups, mission boards, worship teams, small groups, Sunday School classes, men's or women's groups, etc. for a week, weekend, or one day urban missions adventure in inner city Denver. For as little as $30 per person per night, you can have a quality missions experience. To schedule, call the ODM office at 303-830-2201, x5 WHAT IS URBAN MISSIONS ABOUT? For the time you are in Denver as an Urban Missions group, you are the heart and hands of Jesus with us. This may mean befriending a child in our preschool or during VBS. It may involve being covered with dirt and sweat from a work project that will help us as we minister to our neighbors. It may be spending time with our disabled friends over lunch. We need YOUR help to minister to the often-forgotten people in the city of Denver. How will Jesus use YOU? COSTS $30 per person per night. Th is includes dorm space with showers & kitchen, food project supplies and supervision/training from Open Door staff. A $500 deposit is required for all week-long groups. Your deposit is non refundable. The deposit will be subtracted from your total bill when you arrive. We think it's important that you learn about life and ministry in the urban setting. Learning sessions include: · What creates an inner city? · Race issues · Ministry to the disabled · Tour of Center-City Denver · Poverty Scavenger Hunt · Prayer walk on Colfax · Speakers on Urban Ministry Issues VolunteerDOWNLOAD VOLUNTEER APPLICATION COOKING/FOOD• Provide lunch for TRYAD (our outreach to disabled people) on a Tuesday• Provide a meal after church at Open Door Fellowship on a Sunday evening • Bring dinner for Treasure or Chayah House CONSTRUCTION/REMODELING• Do various fix-it and/or renovation projects at any of our 8 buildings• Help with landscaping/gardening in one of the homes WORK WITH CHILDREN• Be a tutor for an elementary student at the Say Yes program (Tuesdays – 5-6:00pm)• Be a mentor for a school-age child (Mondays and/or Tuesdays – 4-6:00pm) • Babysit for Treasure House • Volunteer at the preschool anytime M-F, 7am-6pm. • Babysit for children while parents attend classes WORK WITH YOUTH• Join the adult volunteer team of our youth ministry—different levels of involvement are available• Volunteer weekly or regularly in our Art studio for street kids, art experience helpful but not necessary • Mentor or tutor a student WORK WITH ADULTS• Become a mentor to one of the residents at Chayah, Treasure, or Esther House• Come alongside a disabled person at TRYAD • Teaching/training opportunities available in several of the ministries • Counseling opportunities available depending on qualifications OFFICE• Help with mailings or brochures• Help with computer repair and/or upgrades OUTREACH• Pass out flyers advertising some of the programs or inviting people to church• Help with a ministry outreach such as our back to school outreach • Bring a group down for an overnight urban mission trip • Bring a group down for a day urban ministry trip InternshipINTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE DOWNLOAD INTERNSHIP APPLICATION TIME COMMITMENT: Part time or full time, 2 months through 1 year Ministry Areas with Available Internships 2 or more areas could potentially be combined in one internship EzraIntern would work in a downtown art studio with street kids. This is a highly relational ministry which seeks to meet kids where they are and lead them to Christ. In addition to working in the studio, intern would help with outreaches and meet with street kids individually. Non-profit ManagementIntern would work in the ODM office alongside the Executive Team (ministries, administration, & fund raising). Duties could include volunteer management, ministry and project oversight, event planning, fund raising, etc. Pastoral (adult)Intern would be working in an inner city church alongside the pastoral staff. Duties could include preaching, teaching, counseling, prayer, visitation, working with youth and children, outreach, working with the homeless, etc. Pastoral (children)Intern would be working in the children’s ministry of an inner city church alongside of the staff and other volunteers. Duties would include volunteer management and recruiting, curriculum development, teaching, one on one discipleship, parent meetings, etc. Preschool/Elementary Age Program/Middle School ProgramIntern would be working in our all day children’s programs. Both men and women are needed. Kids range in age from 3 to 14. Includes teaching lessons, informal time with kids, going on field trips, opportunities for evangelism and discipleship, and learning about the inner workings of an urban child care center. Still Waters Housing (Transitional Housing for Women (Treasure House/Chayah House/Esther House)Intern would work with women in transitional housing. Must be female. Includes biblical counseling, teaching the Bible, one on one discipleship, compassion ministry, and learning about inner city housing ministries. Esther House works with women coming out of prostitution. Chayah House works with women coming out of addictions. Treasure House works with single moms and their children. Urban MissionsIntern would be helping to coordinate all the summer groups we have coming to help our ministry. Includes setting up work projects, leading VBS, coordinating prayer walks and learning sessions, and getting a full understanding of the broad ministries we offer. YouthIntern would work with our urban youth program (6th-12th grades). Includes going on day trips, one on one discipleship, relationship building with youth, leading various youth activities & outreaches, and learning about an established urban youth ministry. SALARYIn most cases, interns receive free housing.
