Information for Applicants

The program has the following admissions requirements:
  • a Bachelor’s degree in French, Spanish, or a closely-related field
  • recent GRE scores (no more than 5 years old)
  • official transcripts from all- credit-bearing university study (undergraduate and graduate coursework), sent directly from the university to the Graduate School
  • three letters of recommendation (submitted online via email)
  • application fee of $50.00 submitted to the Graduate School
  • a French or Spanish writing sample of at least 5-7 pages
  • a French or Spanish speaking sample
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Students may enter the program at any time, though we encourage those considering study with us to begin with a Summer Institute on campus if possible.

Application Deadlines for degree-seeking students*:
  • for Spring: November 1
  • for Summer Session 1: April 1
  • for Summer Session 2: (including the FLL Summer Institute): May 1
  • or fall admission: July 1
*Note: If you cannot meet a deadline above, you can begin study as a non-degree-seeking student.

Need to start as a non-degree-seeking student?
The non-degree-seeking application does not require GRE scores or letters of recommendations. Official transcripts of all credit-bearing university study are required. Non-degree-seeking applications must be completed two weeks before the first day of classes (firm deadline). Please see the FAQs for more information about taking courses as a non-degree-seeking student.
